Privacy Policy

Last updated 27 October 2026

Plainpaper ("we") respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, and your rights under the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).

What we collect

  • Account details: your email address and password (stored encrypted).
  • CV content: the notes, work history, education, skills and files you give us.
  • Payment records: what you bought and when. Card details are handled by Paystack; we never see or store them.
  • Basic technical data needed to run the site, such as your sign-in session.

Why we use it

  • To write, show and let you download your CV.
  • To manage your account, plan and payments.
  • To answer you if you contact us.

We don't sell your information and we don't use it for advertising.

AI processing

To write your CV, the text and files you provide are sent to an AI service that processes them on our behalf. They are used only to produce your CV, not to train public models.

Who we share it with

  • Paystack, to process payments.
  • Our hosting, database and AI providers, only as needed to run the service. Some may be outside South Africa; we only use providers with adequate protection, as POPIA requires.

How long we keep it

We keep your CVs while your account is open. Delete a CV and it's gone. Close your account and we delete your data, except payment records we must keep for tax law (usually five years).

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct or delete your personal information, or object to how we use it. Email hello@plainpaper.co.za. If you're unhappy with our answer, you can complain to the Information Regulator (inforegulator.org.za).

Security

Your data is stored with access controls so only you can see your CVs, and is sent over encrypted connections.
